Hinxton Hall Case Study

Project Info

PROJECT

A major programme involving the replacement of air handling units at theWellcome Trust’s Famous Hinxton Hall research, training and conferencefacility, has recently been completed by the Weatherite Group.

The Wellcome Trust is at the forefront of research into the human genome and through its subsidiary, Hinxton Hall  Limited, provides world class facilities to the organisations based on the ‘Wellcome Trust Genome Campus’ and to the many visitors who use its facilities every year.

SOLUTION

As part of the programme of works, it became necessary to replace a large number of air handling units, in the Sulston and West Pavilion buildings and in addition, replace one AHU within the West Pavilion block.

At this point the FM team at Hinxton Hall called in Weatherite Group, who, acting on a main contractor basis, co-ordinated the complete programme, which was both extensive and demanding.

Working in conjunction with sister company Weatherite Building Services, the air handling units were designed, built, tested and pre commissioned in our purpose built factory ready for final delivery and installation. Existing pipe work was modified where necessary to accept the new replacement AHU’s and a new Trend IQ control system installed.

Working through an intensive 8 week programme, Weatherite planned all works to ensure little disruption to the normal day to day operations of Hinxton Hall and particular care and attention was paid to the research organisations using the facilities to ensure their work was not affected or compromised whilst the replacement work was undertaken.
